What is the star rating feature?

Tell the community what you think of another's post or proposal. Score the post with one to five stars, one being least liked and five being most liked. Posts with consistently high ratings will be promoted with the possibility of being highlighted by the White House. Consistent high ratings of posts over time will lead to users receiving escalating badge levels.

How do I find my friends?

When you create an account, you can search for people by name or user name, import friends from other networks, or invite friends via email. If you don't want to do that, follow some of the people we've suggested. Once you've found your friends, ask them to be your friend to start getting their updates.

How do I know who I'm friends with?

See a list of people you are friends with by clicking on the Friends link on your profile or the link on your home page's top right corner.

Who reads my posts?

It's up to you. Your friends read your updates, and anyone else who comes across them in a search. Your La Plaza profile is public by default; if you're hesitant to have strangers read your updates, protect your profile to approve friends and keep your updates out of search. All proposals or ideas sent on the "Ask the White House" page are public regardless of your privacy status.

Can I block people from viewing my posts?

Yes, you can. Make sure you have updated your privacy settings to make your profile private. If you have already accepted the user as a friend, you can simply remove them from your friends. If you block someone, they won't be able to see your posts or send you any messages. If your account is public, they'll still be able to view it, but they won't show up on your friends list. If it is a spammer you are blocking, thanks! Please report all instances of spam or violations to La Plaza Support by contacting us.

What are Direct Messages?

Direct messages are private messages sent from one La Plaza user to another. You can only send a direct message to someone that has accepted your friend request. When you receive a direct message, we save it in your direct message inbox, accessible from the Inbox tab in the header. Set your email preferences to notify you by mail if you have a new message.

Can I edit a post once I submit it?

Nope. Once it's out there, you cannot edit it. You can delete a post by clicking the trash icon on the right end of the post, but you can't make changes.

How do I report spam?

Please report any spam or violations on our "Report a Violation" page. La Plaza also encourages you to not accept friend requests from users that engage in spamming activities.

Why are accounts suspended?

Accounts are suspended for Terms of Service violations or spam investigation. Read more about this here.

How to do I change my email address?

Under the "Update Profile" link you will find your real name, username, and email address. Type your new email address into the correct field. When you have entered your new email address in the email field, click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.  A dialog box will then appear asking you to confirm your La Plaza password. Enter your password in the box and click the 'Save changes' button.

Then you will need to confirm your new email address. To do this, log in to your new email's inbox. You should see a new message from La Plaza. Open it and click on the confirmation link in that email. You should then be directed to your La Plaza account. Your change is now complete!
Warning: If you do not complete the confirmation process above, your email will not be changed.

How to change your username (or real name):

Changing your name(s) is easy! Visit your La Plaza "Update Profile" page to change either your real name and/or username.

  1. Log in to La Plaza
  2. From the upper right hand link, click Update Profile
  3. Change the name listed in your username field on the first page you see there.
  4. To change your real name type in a new name in the appropriate field.
  5. Save your changes.

NOTE: Changing your username will not affect your existing followers, direct messages, or @replies. They will simply see a new username next to your picture when you update.

How do I change my email preferences?

You can change your email preferences in the notifications section of your settings page. You can set your email preferences to let you know when:

  • You have a new direct message
  • You are sent a reply to one of your posts or are mentioned (tagged) in a post
  • You receive a friend request by someone new
  • Someone rates one of your posts
  • We send out a newsletter or update about La Plaza
  • We send specific updates related to your account such as reminders or suggestions

How do I deactivate my account?

  1. Log in to La Plaza
  2. Click "Update Profile" from the drop-down menu at the top right of your La Plaza account.
  3. Click 'deactivate my account' at the bottom of the page.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. Verify that you really want to do it and voila, it's done.
